Approving an AI film: a practical final review

Compare against the agreed brief

Keep the script, storyboard and delivery list beside the film. First check scene count, duration, language and aspect ratios, then the central message. Separate a mismatch with the approved scope from a new creative idea. They are different kinds of changes.

Inspect the product frame by frame

Pause at the start and end of shots and during significant motion. Compare packaging, logos, lettering, colour and details with the source photos. Watch edges and reflections for unintended geometry changes. Tiny label readability and silhouette recognition are different requirements; review against the agreed purpose of each shot.

Watch motion at normal speed

Now watch without pausing. Look for distracting jumps, changing textures and odd object interactions. Assess stylised animation against its chosen visual language. Record the exact time: “At 00:06 the cap edge changes shape during the turn” is more actionable than “the motion feels wrong.”

Read titles on a phone

Check spelling, contrast, legibility and reading time on a small screen. Review the composition in its intended publishing context, where interface elements may cover part of the frame. Check every agreed aspect ratio separately: a crop can remove the product or final call to action.

Check sound and delivered files

Listen on headphones and a phone speaker at a comfortable volume. Speech should remain clear. Check filenames, formats, resolution and the delivery list. Keep agreed usage information with the project. Request silent versions, clean backgrounds or separate subtitles in the original scope if needed.

Collect one revision list

Have reviewers watch the same version and consolidate their feedback. For each item, give a timecode, observation and desired change. Distinguish required corrections from preferences. Review the next cut against the list and then watch it in full, since changing one shot can affect the surrounding rhythm.
